Today I'm sharing my review of the Chauvet Intimidator Spot 250 LED. This is another moving light that is included in our Lux, Mega Lux, and Grand Lux packages.

Hello and WELCOME back. Today I’ll be reviewing the Intimidator Spot 250 LED from Chauvet.
PRICE AND ALTERNATIVES
This was actually the first moving head I invested in . . . and I gotta say, it’s a pretty good light for those who are venturing into the intelligent lighting world.
When I purchased this light back in 2014, I got it from Guitar Center for $599.
Chauvet’s Intimidator series has 4 different spot moving heads. There’s the 150, 250, 250, and 450. Each of them have their own perks and special features.
The 250 is a good fit for a beginner mobile dj who wants a little more power and size from the 150.
SPECIFICATIONS
Alright lets dig into some specs . . . The 250 is a pretty small light with the dimensions coming in at 9.3 inches for the the front of the base, 8.1 inches for the sides, and 11.3 inches for the height. As a smaller light, the 250 only weighs 12.6 pounds.
As expected from Chauvet, their build quality is excellent.
The fixture has an output rating of 50 watts, pumping out light at 5,970 lux at 2 meters. Since it is a spot light, the beam angle is a semi-wide 15 degrees.
The 250 comes with a pretty standard digital display on the front to indicate things like your DMX address, sound active mode, and other information to change the light’s settings.
On the back, theres your 3-pin DMX in and out, a power in slot, and a handy power out slot to daisy chain other lights. This is a lifesaver so you don’t have to run too many cords down your truss.
RIGGING
To rig this up, Chauvet provides some relatively tedius mounting brackets. You have to use a allen key to drive the screw into place. It would be nice if Chauvet allowed for an OMEGA bracket to work with this, but the light is probably too small.
WHEELS & FILTERS
The Spot 250 has a color wheel with 8 colors plus white. You can play around with split colors and color scrolling to make some neat effects.
Next, the gobo wheel has 7 different gobos plus the standard open. These can be rotating and scrolled through.
A really cool feature about this light is having the ability to quickly switch out gobos. There’s a little door on the top of the head piece that can be opened. Then, all you need to do is slide out a gobo and switch it out for your own.
The 250 has a three-facet prism to make some cool mid air effects and add some depth to your light show.
Being a lower-end fixture, the focus is all manual. The whole lens can be turned to change the focus to the desired setting.
PROGRAMMING
To make those bass drops as intense as possible, the 250 can be strobed up to 20 Hertz.
Through the display, you can access some pre-programmed light-shows and sound active modes. Unlike the predecessor to this light, the Intimidator Spot 255 IRC, the 250 doesn’t have remote capabilities.
